Mission

Our mission is to set up an export avocado cluster in the Iringa region of Tanzania and introduce the profitable avocado crop to small holder farmers providing them with a ready market for their fruit.

Sustainable

Avocado as a crop provides numerous benefits to small holder farming families. It is a long term investment giving growers an opportunity to improve family wealth, security from crop failures, nutrition and stabilise soils on erodible slopes

The Farm

Southern Highland Avocado is a company based in the Iringa Region of Tanzania. The farm is in the cool highlands at 1950m altitude, providing perfect growing conditions similar to the the Central American region where avocados originate

Skills

The team has many years of experience in the production, packaging and export of avocado as well as the extension services necessary for the growth of the out grower base.

The Future

Avocado is a relatively new fruit in the European market and the growth in demand has been exponential. In future growing markets in the Far East and South Africa will likely be targeted.

Support

SHA gives support to farmers in the form of plants from its on-site nursery, extension services with advice on establishment, growing, harvest and post-harvest handling, as well as assistance in gaining GlobalGap certification as required by export markets
